An address from the President of Enoclub Siena
Why ‘Wine and Contrade?’

The historic ‘Contrade del Palio’ (horseracing districts) of Siena and quality wines are subjects of key interest for the city of Siena and its Province. Seldom however, are both subjects ever entwined.
In the area around Siena, there is a multitude of small and medium sized vintners who produce wine in a simple and rigorous manner, and whose produce expresses our proud vini-cultural heritage and enhances Tuscany’s reputation as a high quality wine-producing region. Yet these same producers are not always known to the wider public.
The idea of this year’s Enoclub initiative,’Wine and Contrade’, is to start a dialogue which promotes closer co-operation and synergies between the Tuscan agricultural territories and the historic city centre districts of Siena. It joins the city and wine producing districts together in order to create a greater understanding and familiarisation with our local wines and to encourage the sensible enjoyment of wine, and of quality wines in particular.
The wine vintners who will attend the meetings in the Sienese districts will not only express the commercial realities awkward to our land and to our rural history , but they will also express a sensibility that is very close to the culture of good drinking conduct, of the conviviality of quality, of the respect of the traditions and of the sustainment of a territory (Chianti, Montalcino, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, the Valley of Orcia, etc) that should continue to be a pride for all Siennese people and the wine appreciating public in general.
I would therefore invite you to attend and to participate in our Club’s new initiative and discover for yourself the superb tastes and experiences that are there to be enjoyed from our wonderful local wine heritage.
The President of Enoclub Siena
Davide Bonucci
